BioShock designer and Irrational Games cofounder Ken Levine is writing a new game.

"Game writing this afternoon. This is something else," Levine said on today.

Asked by a Twitter user for inspiration, Levine called out period drama Mad Men, as well as the work of film directors Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood,) the Coen brothers (No Country for Old Men) Stanley Kubrick (Full Metal Jacket), and Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's 11).

Levine also said he is inspired by the work of British playwright and film writer Tom Stoppard (Brazil), as well as composer Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd).

"I don't have a thought for our next game, so it's kind of hard to even think about that," he said at the time.

Irrational Games currently lists on its website running the gamut of development. However, some appear to be outdated, as a requisition for level designer states the studio's current project is BioShock Infinite.

How 3D scanning helped create the face of Bioshock Infinites Elizabeth

Added: 06.05.2013 23:17 | 11 views | 0 comments

Since the beginning, BioShock creator Ken Levine has stressed that his goal was to make Elizabeth feel like anything but a video game character. And while half of that effort is good writing and voice acting, the other half is good technology: Elizabeth had to look and act real otherwise, the Bioshock Infinite experience would fall apart. And pulling that off, as you might expect, takes a lot of work.

Suing Sega? Then Sue Irrational Too

Serves SEGA right, doesnt it. Made a right crappy game out of Colonial Marines they did, so someone is suing them. Oh, well, they didnt make it per say, but Im sure they are to blame somehow. Dont worry, developer Gearbox are getting sued to. Yeah, in your face, Pitchford! Ken Levine though? Hes a God. He and Irrational craft critically lauded works of fantasy. BioShock: Infinite was a masterpiece. Theyd never do a SEGA on us and whet our lips with a false gameplay demo that way overemphasises aspects of their game, let alone showcase amazing features that never actually appeared in the final release.

MB:Bioshock Infinite is one of the best games that I have ever played, and possibly one of the best games that has ever been created. If you don't play Bioshock Infinite I have no doubt that somewhere down the road you will regret it. Ken Levine and the staff at Irrational Games have crafted a masterpiece, a spectacular blend of narrative, art work, music and game play. If you're only going to pick one game up this year, make sure it's this one. And for heaven's sake, play it on a decent PC.

"As baptism of the Holy spirit is at the center of Christianity--of which I am a devout believer--I am basically being forced to make a choice between committing extreme blasphemy by my actions in choosing to accept this 'choice' or forced to quit playing the game before it even really starts," Malmberg said.

"Of course I cannot hold true to my beliefs and also commit this act, so I am therefor[e] forced to not play the game," he added.

Malmberg then penned a letter to Valve, because he purchased the game for PC through Steam, explaining the situation. Valve reportedly gave Malmberg a full refund, though the company has not confirmed this publicly or with GameSpot.

BioShock Infinite is not the first game to conflict with religious teachings, but this instance was different for Malmberg, because there was no other option; no way to continue the game unless his character accepted baptism.

"The difference here is that you are forced to make a decision that violates those beliefs in order to continue with the game--which is not something I have run into very often," he said.

This is not the first time BioShock Infinite has made headlines for its religious themes. During the game's development, an Irrational Games employee was . He would end up staying with the company and in fact, his discussions with creative director Ken Levine would end up being instrumental in the game's writing of antagonist Comstock.
